Conflicts and illnesses are the daily grind of man, of the communities and of nations. In fact, they have become our permanent and latent problem. Humanitarian actions are of great importance as they provide adequate support for the peace restoration and for the development of a nation.
Peace is synonymous with mind tranquility and social ideal; peace means absence of conflict, war, violence and diseases. The objectives of humanitarian actions are to struggle for peace restoration, either at the moral or physical level. In practice, both concepts are complementary.
The reasons why humanitarian actions contribute to peace
Peacekeeping initiatives and humanitarian actions
The actions involve management, which means, conflict management and distribution of relief supplies especially health care, food, education, and security. Humanitarian assistance for ecological, economic and social development is also included.
The objective is to relieve the pain and to respect the core values of humanity, which are respected for life, human dignity, and human rights. In other words, the actions involve the implementation of humanitarian values and global peace.
The main targets of humanitarian actions
The actions are especially designed to help vulnerable people, like those who are victims of natural disasters, civil war, epidemics, and incurable diseases. To illustrate this, the United Nations Organizations (UNO) is a case in point. This organization aims to establish peace among nations and to intervene in case of a civil war which breaks out just like the one in Syria.
In the field of health care, the World Health Organization (OMS) carries out global initiatives. It is involved in bringing aid for countries where there are such epidemics as plague and cholera.
Interface between peacekeeping and humanitarian initiatives
Humanitarian actions contribute to peace restoration through the initiatives to promote international solidarity. Humanitarian actions need to be taken to address different issues as diseases, wars, societal problems, economic and political crises in order to meet the basic, immediate needs of the victims, such as food, drinking water supply, essential goods, medications, health care and other.
Humanitarian actions provide psychological help
The psychological and affective dimension is given very little consideration in peacekeeping initiatives as humanitarian actions aim at imparting individuals with a serene and peaceful mind. In fact, psychological help is another strategy to promote peace. A case in point is the UNICEF.
This organization launches initiatives to help children and women who are victims of wars, violence, malnutrition, and illiteracy. Such actions give them hope for peace, and these could illustrate the importance of humanitarian actions to provide psychological support.
On the other hand, it is also worth citing Prem Rawat. He is a messenger of peace who focuses on the importance of global peace. Therefore, he transmits messages of peace all over the world to persuade people to keep on working for peace. Beside this, he also created the Prem Rawat Foundation. This association is in charge of carrying out humanitarian initiatives to enhance peacekeeping efforts all over the world.
