It would have been more effective to post the Medicaid reimbursement rates with the caption: Would your work for this pay rate? Neither will I; your understanding why we no longer accept Medicaid/Medicare is appreciated. We may be forced to not accept Obamacare or close our doors in 2011 or 2012.

Nice story and but Unfortunately, this sort of thing is not unheard of. I once saw an gyn practioner's waiting room posted with flayers arguing that malpractice reform was his patients' only hope for ever receiving care. I have no problem with doctors talking to their patients about these issues, but lecturing and propagandizing are another matter entirely.

I couldn't help it I had to post this one....go figure....
MOUNT DORA — A doctor who considers the national health-care overhaul to be bad medicine for the country posted a sign on his office door telling patients who voted for President Barack Obama to seek care "elsewhere."
"I'm not turning anybody away — that would be unethical," Dr. Jack Cassell, 56, a Mount Dora urologist and a registered Republican opposed to the health plan, told the Orlando Sentinel on Thursday. "But if they read the sign and turn the other way, so be it."
The sign reads: "If you voted for Obama … seek urologic care elsewhere. Changes to your healthcare begin right now, not in four years."
Estella Chatman, 67, of Eustis, whose daughter snapped a photo of the typewritten sign, sent the picture to U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson, the Orlando Democrat who riled Republicans last year when he characterized the GOP's idea of health care as, "If you get sick, America … Die quickly."
Chatman said she heard about the sign from a friend referred to Cassell after his physician recently died. She said her friend did not want to speak to a reporter but was dismayed by Cassell's sign.
"He's going to find another doctor," she said.
Cassell may be walking a thin line between his right to free speech and his professional obligation, said William Allen, professor of bioethics, law and medical professionalism at the University of Florida's College of Medicine.
Allen said doctors cannot refuse patients on the basis of race, gender, religion, sexual orientation or disability, but political preference is not one of the legally protected categories specified in civil-rights law. By insisting he does not quiz his patients about their politics and has not turned away patients based on their vote, the doctor is "trying to hold onto the nub of his ethical obligation," Allen said.
"But this is pushing the limit," he said.
Cassell, who has practiced medicine in GOP-dominated Lake County since 1988, said he doesn't quiz his patients about their politics, but he also won't hide his disdain for the bill Obama signed and the lawmakers who passed it.
In his waiting room, Cassell also has provided his patients with photocopies of a health-care timeline produced by Republican leaders that outlines "major provisions" in the health-care package. The doctor put a sign above the stack of copies that reads: "This is what the morons in Washington have done to your health care. Take one, read it and vote out anyone who voted for it."
Cassell, whose lawyer wife, Leslie Campione, has declared herself a Republican candidate for Lake County commissioner, said three patients have complained, but most have been "overwhelmingly supportive" of his position.
"They know it's not good for them," he said.
Cassell, who previously served as chief of surgery at Florida Hospital Waterman in Tavares, said a patient's politics would not affect his care for them, although he said he would prefer not to treat people who support the president.
"I can at least make a point," he said.
The notice on Cassell's office door could cause some patients to question his judgment or fret about the care they might receive if they don't share his political views, Allen said. He said doctors are wise to avoid public expressions that can affect the physician-patient relationship.
Erin VanSickle, spokeswoman for the Florida Medical Association, would not comment specifically.
But she noted in an e-mail to the Sentinel that "physicians are extended the same rights to free speech as every other citizen in the United States."
The outspoken Grayson described Cassell's sign as "ridiculous."
"I'm disgusted," he said. "Maybe he thinks the Hippocratic Oath says, ‘Do no good.' If this is the face of the right wing in America, it's the face of cruelty. … Why don't they change the name of the Republican Party to the Sore Loser Party?"

Hey.. up here in Canuckistan.. a family relative needs an MRI for an non-emergency .. They where told the wait for them would be 4-1/2 months..
(If the person had an emergency, they could get there free MRI in 24 hours..)
The family member complained to me.. I reminded them that in our town, for $1100 .. they could pay for a private MRI and have the results in less than a week..
This fella chose to wait.. I told him, if it was not worth $1100 to speed the process up, he obviously wasn't that concerned..
I love the Canadian system.. there is no reason to bitch .. if your not happy with the free service, you can buy great service.. Why should great service be free ?
The private company that owns the private MRI machine is far more efficient.. they pump people through much faster than the Government system and they make a great profit..
Our system has evolved into a system that has a solution for everyone.

I received YET ANOTHER DENIAL LETTER; this time from AvMed.
I can't get insurance because I take blood pressure medication. We all drop dead in our family from Strokes and Heart Attacks. Then again, we have no cancer.....!
So, in order for me to get medical insurance, I would:
1. Have to WORK FOR SOMEONE ELSE AGAIN! Then I can get group insurance and can't be denied.
2. Stick with what I have which sucks.
I still haven't received the OK from the Insurance company for my MRI. I figure if I have to PAY for the insurance they can in turn, provide me with service.

I said all along Mercy I would be for some reforms for the industry including making it against the law to deny insurance. I don't know how they would figure the needed rate.

Well AK. It's all about PROFIT. No one really gives a flying fungool if I am in pain or not.
Did you see the article on the internet about the woman that lost her health insurance because she UNDERPAID ONE PENNY?
Crazy s*&t out there with the health coverage. This Country has a problem with "PREVENTIVE HEALTH CARE".
See, me taking my blood pressure medication says I am willing to take care of my health so I don't become a patient in the hospital needing a pace maker or open heart surgery. The insurance company doesn't appreciate that.
The DOCTORS want me to be there but the INSURANCE company doesn't.

Mercy, it will always be about profit or at the very least minimizing cost. Even the countries with single payer or even free health care have the same problems. It will never be an unlimited well of resources and/or money.
And you are right, other people do not care if you are in pain or not and nor they should. They have their own well being to work out. I have always said, you better take of yourself and your family...no one else, especially the government is going to.
We have to, as a nation, get out of that who is going to take care of me crap. Europe is finally waking up to understand. There is no right, that you as a human, no matter where you are from, have that says you must be taken care of medically. I have never believed in health care being a right.

I think healthcare is something everyone should be able to have.
If you are poor in this country, and know how to work the system, you get it all. If you are rich you don't need the help.
But, if you are a working stiff, you are basically fucked. Cause, you are the one paying for everything with your tax dollars.
Do you think it is fair that people who come over from Cuba, once they turn 65 they can get medicaid/medicare (with all the premium paid for the medicare part), Wefare and foodstamps?
They of course have to become Citizens but all you have to do is go to a "clinic" and they declare you mentally imcompetent to take the test in English and Voila....you are a Citizen.
Then, a person who has worked all their life here has to contend themselves with Social Security and on top of that, you have to pay for the portion of medicare?
WTF???? Who is running this sinking ship?

I guess it pays to learn how to work the system if you don;t have insurance.

AK, IMO, most of your posts are usually sixpence short of a shilling! Now you suggest the Tea Party as a viable option to Repubs and Dems. Are you totally delusional? OTOH, maybe yes you are! Dream on!!!

That's not what I am saying. The Tea party is about voting out the incumbents or anyone who do not stand for what this country ideals are supposed to be about. In other words, people who are for big government, more controlling government, more spending government..etc, are not the people, tea party supporters will support.
I have never suggested there be a "third party" to challenge Democrats or republicans.

Well, I think there SHOULD be a third party to trump these losers we seem to be having to vote on.
The Government is there FOR THE PEOPLE ELECTED BY THE PEOPLE...not for them to squander hard earned money which they take from us.
I really need to fill that Vicodin prescription.
