U.S. President Bush made plain his feelings about Fidel Castro Thursday – wishing the Cuban leader would disappear.

“One day the good Lord will take Fidel Castro away,” Bush said in answer to a question after a speech at the Naval War College.

Asked whether Bush was wishing Castro dead, White House National Security Council spokesman Gordon Johndroe said: “The president was commenting on an inevitable event.”

Castro has long been a thorn in the side of U.S. presidents, defying them and outlasting them in office.

Documents released by the CIA this week showed that the spy agency worked with three American mobsters in a botched attempt to assassinate Castro in the early 1960s.

Castro, who has long accused U.S. leaders of wanting him dead, in an editorial published on Monday accused Bush of ”authorizing and ordering” an attempt on his life, but provided no evidence back up the claim. He has not been seen in public since undergoing emergency intestinal surgery in July last year, when he handed over power temporarily to his younger brother, Raul.

But the convalescing 80-year-old revolutionary has published several editorials recently in which he has urged Cubans to remain defiant in the face of criticism from foreign countries, especially the United States, which has imposed an economic embargo on the island for 45 years.
Cuba's Castro Says God Protects Him From U.S. Assassination

By Bill Faries

June 29 (Bloomberg) -- Cuban President Fidel Castro said that God has protected him from assassination orders he says were issued by U.S. presidents, including George W. Bush.

``Now I understand why I've survived the plans of Bush and the other presidents who ordered my assassination -- the Good Lord protected me,'' Castro wrote in an editorial published by the Havana daily Granma.

Castro was responding to comments made yesterday by President Bush at the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island. ``We'll continue to press for freedom on the island of Cuba. One day, the good Lord will take Fidel Castro,'' Bush said.

Castro's essay is his second since a June 21 vote by the U.S. House of Representatives to increase funding for a State Department ``Cuba Democracy'' fund fivefold to $45.7 million next year. House and Senate Democrats introduced a proposal to lift travel and some farm trade restrictions against the island that same day.

The editorial by Castro, 80, is the latest in a series of essays he has published in Granma, his main avenue of communication since undergoing intestinal surgery last July. He turned temporary governing authority over to his brother Raul Castro at the time, and has not appeared in public since.

``The President was commenting on an inevitable event,'' U.S. National Security Council spokesman Gordon Johndroe said when asked about Bush's comments, according to the Washington Post.

``It would appear that this brilliant official and his boss are going to live for thousands of years,'' Castro wrote in response to Johndroe's statement.
Only Fidel?
Bush must have a list as long as a bog roll.
Of course, Mr Bush won't be on any other world leaders list, he's such a nice guy.

Bob.
I wish Bush and Castro would BOTH dissappear.

Since when does Fidel believe in God? :scream:
Maybe Susan converted him. Next thing you know, we will see Fidel at a Benny Hinn rally and he will be HEALED!
PRAISE THE LORD!!! (and pass the bucks)
Smile Smile Smile

Since when does Fidel believe in God?  :scream:

I suppose Fidel is as good a God as all the other Gods and maybe even better than some.
I think the God that said he was "the one true God", modelled himself on Fidel.
Of course, the real God (the first one) no longer exsists. He retired at sixty, snuffed it at seventy and left no will, just a book he was trying to get published.

Regards,

Bob.

He did get the book published. Has sold more copies than Harry Potter. Icon_rolleyes
Mercy,

Harry Potter has only been on sale a few years.
Anyway, Gods book was called "how to get pregnant without a partner", it didn't catch on.
The book you maybe thinking of, was written by a plumber in Bethlehem.

Kind regards,

Bob.

Don't know either of those 2 versions. Not a very catchy title for that first book.

In this day and age, you can get pregnant WITHOUT any partners.
We Know. CubaKing's wife has done it twice as far as he knows!
