fidel just appointed a new Foreign Relations Minister. His name is Horacio Selastraga. Selastraga was one of the original revolutionaries. It was said he was very personal with Raul.
Here's a picture of Horacio.

I've just got back, and Reggaeton is everywhere. The BOOM...BA-BA-BA...BOOM...BA-BA-BA... thudding rhythms are inescapable. Sit on the malecon and every few minutes a car or bicitaxi goes by sounding like there's a party on board. It's Havana's hypnotic new heartbeat....
It's proving pretty divisive among young and old alike. A real love it or hate it thing. The lyrics can pack a punch (often aggressively sexual) but it seems there's a wave of pro-revolutionary creeping in to redress the balance. Great to dance to, but get to La Tropical to see the guys do it best. Deep down and dirty. No compromises. Get it now before it gets cleaned up and commoditized for tourists.

correct me if I'm wrong but the way I have always seen reggaeton danced to is to basically simulate fucking on the dance floor. aka pure grinding and thrusting movements.
how are they going to "clean up and commoditize" that?

Basically, by taking the heart, soul, guts and grind out of it and creating a token version that can be easily picked up by tourists.
If there's money to be made, it happens.
Reggaeton is now being introduced to the salsa classes and clubs I attend in the UK, at the request of those wanting to be able to dance more 'authentically' with locals on their forthcoming hols. The version they're learning is very mild and is really just a few slinky moves slipped in (excuse me...) among the usual sequences.
It's an interesting add-on to refresh the holiday-salsa market.
