Bogey, just when I thought you were really a Cubanaso, you dissapoint me. The "oye maestra/o" is used very widely in Cuba. I heard it all over the place. It's better than saying "compan~ero".

Hmm.. interesting. Honestly I never heard it (or heard it enough to remember/notice it) Maybe it's a generational thing as I spent almost all my time with people under 30.

I think non latinos will NEVER understand the nature of certain latin relationships, especially when it comes to physical violence and acceptance of it in certain circles.

I remember a couple of months after first arriving in Caracas, I was walking back home from a night out, when outside of a local disco near Plaza Venezuela, I saw a young couple screaming at each other by a car. Actually, the guy was doing most of the screaming, and the girl was basically crying. The girl's gf was there kind of inbetween them and it was clear the guy wanted to physically assault his gf. Needless to say I took a very dim view of this, I hated the punk at first glance, he was kind of little tough guy that really should get his do kicked on a regular basis in order to fix his fucked up head. At least that was my perception of this.

Instead of walking away, I chose to observe this from a distance for a little while and was weighing intervening, but figured this is really none of my business. Then I saw the little punk close his hand and try to smack his gf with a fist. When I saw that, I basically snapped. Embued with all my Old World Polish upbringing, the gallantry and damsel in distress syndrome, and being a little drunk, with my own beer muscles in effect, I essentially rushed up to them, asked the guy what the Fk he thought he was doing, and he was so tough, he could try to hit me. Then I shoved him and he flew backwards and landed on his do.

I really would not have intervened, but just couldn't imagine his making a FIST. That was crossing a complete line for me. At least his gf didn't then jump on me (something that's likely to happen when you intervene in these situations) just turned away crying. The other girl then got in front of me and told me not to interfere, then from the front of the club, the doorman and a bunch of other people including some of the guy's friends rushed up.

I of course tried explaining why I interfered, his friends were now holding him back. The little punk tried taking a wild swing at me, but they held him back, he was really out of his mind and drunk because I literally could have and would have broken every Fkg bone in his little drunk bolivarian body. One of his friends walked up to me and said, hey he's just drunk, he's nuts and that's how they always are. He assured me that by tomorrow they'd be in a love motel Fkg.

I was like yeah ok, I didn't want to get involved but how could a guy make a fist and try to punch a girl? I wouldn't have gotten involved in a bitchslap argument. His buddy just reassured me he's drunk and nuts and just to leave it alone. Meanwhile the little Fk launched a big spit loogie from behind his friends (they were still holding him back, the little fuckhead was trying his best to break thru and attack me so I could beat the Fk out of him). I saw the giant ball of spit fly by me, and told his friend, he's lucky that missed and he's lucky I am a guest in your country.

The bouncer smiled at this, they grabbed the punk and dragged him away, and I went away as well walking back home.

of course the stupid "damsel in distress" never even bothered saying "thank you".

Only later and now do I realize that I actually could have gotten my do seriously kicked (not by the little Fk, but by all of his friends together) and only then did I pause to wonder why the stupid BITCH was even with the guy, considering he was drunk out of his mind and clearly violent. I was very glad I chose the conservative approach and merely shoved the guy away, instead of throwing a punch myself. Otherwise, I may have gotten my do kicked but this way I could stay "in the right".

It's as if she Fkg wanted to get hit.

A lot of latino couples are Fkg crazy. Best not to get involved.

and you hear some of these women complain about how the men are, yet they don't remove themselves from these situations when it's clearly violent or about to get violent, and that's without even raising the question of why they don't get away and stay away from these assholes ASAP.

Of course I have seen this type of behavior Bogey. I don't condone it, but I have seen it happen many times.

In all fairness to the men, it is pretty hard not to punch out a woman who is verbally abusing. I have seen arguments where I have wanted to punch her in the mouth.

Unfortunately, most of the abuse comes from the men. Latino men are very uneducated when it comes to treating a woman like a PERSON. It's that macho bullshit instilled in them from the father and condoned by the mother.

Most latino men think if you are not forceful with the woman, you are a wimp. I think most of the time, when these type of men are faced with real danger, they are the wimps.

oh I agree. I once wanted to hit my mother (I was already an adult) ...of course I didn't, but later I told her I understood now how she'd drive my father Fkg nuts. I remember this episode vividly. (of course my father is no peach either, so I tell them they deserve each other)

I have traveled latin america extensively and have never in my life paid for sex. I have been solicitated but refuse to even consider it besides the women solicating are never that good looking and probably are as dirty as they come. Call me fussy about who I sleep with but screw that notion of paying for sex, too many women will when treated right and enjoy your company will enjoy you intimately as well.

In Cuba, my experience has been that cubana women seem looking for a date that takes them away from their day to day pains and worries in life. Sure I pay for everything when out together and they are with me out of respect for their economic hardships but they are not calling the shots on everything throughout ourtime together either. I have had Cuban women tell me to put my money back in my wallet and have themselves paid the bill or their portion of it on more than one occassion so they do exist!

As far as once a jinetera always a jinetera, that is a big statement. I know of a few gentlemen who have met Cuban "jineteras" and gone on to marry them and have children together in their own countries (not Cuba). These men and women look and always tell me they are happy and content with one another. So jinetera or not, we are all human beings here on earth and can adapt to our surroundings as required. Nobody is perfect and if your going to start throwing stones at others make sure your not around your own glass house when the return fire commences.

I agree. People can always change. Given that the economic hardship hits almost every demographic in Cuba, you're going to find people participating in it that normally wouldn't. When the economics change, so will many of the people. Unfortunately, some may not.

I really hope the always a jinetera thing is wrong. I'm going to return to cuba soon and ask a girl in a very bad situation if she wants out. Our ages aren't terrible different or anything odd but I'm not in love or anything. Just some slightly paternal/chivalrous urge to help someone in a bad place. I've asked others what they thought about this and get people saying you're going to crash and burn and others saying it could be very rewarding. She is totally adorable and I will like having her around for a while. If she wants to try a new life I'm just gunna crush any immigration problems I can with my wallet and get her out. I hope a new and kind situation will make her want a more wholesome life. Hopefully I wont pay for this for the rest of my life.

I take it your speaking from the Cubamania site, Voveré you should listen to what people have told you there is a lot of truth in what they have said. Your not dealing with a jinetera, your dealing with an entire family that survives on her being one.

Why? There are still plenty of respectable women in communist Cuba. The ones that are doing it would be ho's under just about any government system.
