I'm with Cuba on this one.
The Vikings cleansed my great great great great great great great grandfather. He hadn't had a wash for sixty years.

Bob.

Thanks Gray. It will be interesting to note just how this one plays out. Cuba seems intent on burning bridges which could be useful if left intact.

Just in case anyone missed it. Last elections in Sweden, we changed government to a right-wing one. I guess that makes us fair game for all kinds of outlashes from the pseudosocialists.
As Cuban politicians are fully fluent in NEWSPEAK, care has to be taken to the metadata before you can figure out what they really say. Words simply don't mean the same thing to a Cuban official as to a sensible human being.

We have seen them coming over the sea, just as the Cubans do, although our waters are chillier, freezing people to death rather than feeding them to sharks. They came in small boats, just as many Cubans do. Some didn't make it, but some thirty thousand did. They were fleeing the "socialist" government so fondled by Fidel Castro and his henchmen, the Soviet Union. Just as the Cubans, they did not come for wealth, they came to find sanctuary, a place where they could live without fear. Many Estonians were murdered by Soviet soldiers when they tried to escape. This monument was raised at a prominent place in the entrance to Stockholm, by Estonians and Estonian-Swedes, in the presence of our then prime minister, Carl Bildt, the same Carl Bildt that is badmouthed by the worthless piece of s*&t Antonio Fernandez Palacios.
The portal is narrow as you can see. It has an inscription on either side, in Estonian and in Swedish, it reads:

Quote:This Gate of Freedom was erected in 1994 by Estonians and Estonian-Swedes in gratitude of the people of Sweden
We came over the sea in small vessels away from terror and dictatorship. We were thirty thousand that arrived - men women and children. We were workers, fishermen, farmers, learned women and men. We were well received, we got work and we could establish home and family in security. We never forgot the land we were forced to leave, and we worked for its freedom.
May this Gate of Freedom bear testimony of Sweden's humanity and tolerance to people seeking shelter in an evil time and about groups of people that found a new home here.

You've almost got to laugh at this Sweden/Cuba spat - if only because the Swedes (even the rightwing ones) have a reputation within Europe as being so sensible, stolid, impeturbable, (?maybe even a leeetle bit boring?) and diplomatic that it pretty difficult to ignite even an argument with them, never mind a full scale diplomatic row.
It really takes talent to start this sort of fight with Sweden - the sort of talent for making enemies and alienating friends which Cuba has in spades. ** sigh ***
