Since wanting to discuss seeing a genuine communist country firsthand, I have certainly crossed paths with types of people om message boards I'm not used to. While having met SOME nice people, I'm on the whole disappointed. I wonder if a female tourist would let someone hang out to dry if they were in a jam in Cuba and saw a rebel flag or was dressed like "Larry the Cable Guy".
I appreciate Mercy's effort to put the brakes on abusive behavior on this board. However, the pervasiveness of toxic personalities on the "other" board is just shocking. What is it about people that have an interest in Cuba? One can go to message boards about fixing up vintage cars, old furniture, pinball collectors and not see this crap. Some even have a "trolls" area where people can fight if they want to .... and walk away when they are tired of it.
So I will ask again, what's with Cuba visitors that's different from participants in other hobbies?
I wonder if I would have been better off spending a year discussing if a modern transmission will devalue your car, how to best restore contacts in a pinball machine or if Maple is a better investment than Walnut.

I think it is some peoples hatred/jealousy of the U.S that brings out the worst in them.
I agree, I am on several "chopper" forums and gun boards. Very rarely is their any arguments.
But of course, most of the people on the other boards are Americans, unlike Cuba boards which have mostly Canadian and Brits. Some of them have a problem with "free speech".

"Free speech" has to agree with you?
The mind boggles.

Again, as always you twist. Never said that.

Of course not, I have never called for someone being banned/shunned for owning/driving a Chrysler/Mopar product (especially if named "Christine"

) or import in spite of that being reason enough to do so!

I generally have had very good experiences posting on forums, because I'm so likeable and everyone (except Mr Neck) loves me! In general, as long as a forum "has a zero tolerance policy on hate speech; racism, insults, or posts to malign, defame, abuse, threaten, or harass others," then it works. This forum is extremely lenient I have found, but Mercy is on top of things and does delete posts when they go to far. The other one you mention certainly suffers from a lack of moderation, and sure plays favorites!

I see you noticed that to today with jackd. Noone says a word to him until I point it out, then I get banned again(today), this time "forever" while nothing happens to him.
Just incredible. I sure hope all Brits and Canadians are not the two-faced hypocrites like the ones on that board. They can wallow with each other.

Ok, I'm new to this board, but I have participated in many different types of forums over the years. Some with more serious themes than others. One such forum was on the show Survivor of all things. (Yes I know very very lame, but I was at work and during slow periods I would log on.) But I use this as an example. This had some of the most vile, hate filled discussions filled with personal attacks that you would ever want to hear. The only reason for that, was because the moderators couln't have cared less about what was being said. In any forum you are likely to find sociopaths who live to disrupt the forum and insult and hurt others. A good forum moderator knows how to identify these people and weed them out without stifling a diverse range of opinions.
My point is people get in a snit over anything, It isn't the topic of Cuba, I'm sure there are people that would shoot each other over cake recipies.

As far as the Canadians go, only in big Eastern cities are a problem. Until 1999 I was able to say I visited every territory and province in Canada (until they invented Nunavut

). Small town Canadians are just as friendly and helpful as anyone from Dixie. Toronto has such awful, mean spirited snobby people that I gas up beforehand and don't stop until I get on the other side.
Also, no matter where I go, Indians tend to be really welcoming. I just love Arctic Canada.
I know a lot of Canadians too, small-town and big-city, and they are real nice people. I know that many or most of them, like my other foreign friends, are really not happy with the US political situation, so when you guys defend Bush as you have been known to do "over there," then that is going to result in a very negative attitude from them. No one attacks me because my politics is very different from yours (AK and Mr Neck). Fortunately the Bush days are numbered unless he creates an emergency and being a crisis, he says it is unsafe to have an election and therefore manages unconstitutionally to stay in office (which really is my biggest fear - yes, I really believe he is capable of it).
The way to co-exist on an internet forum is knowing when to say enough is enough and NOT having to have the last word.
Mainly the other forums are full of Fidel lovers and left wing rift raft, they are the ones who start the arguments, they are the ones who trample you free speech rights.
Then at the same time they are appointed moderators so they can impose their rhetoric on you.
Which makes you think, the owner of those forums is an American, who is he and what is the forum really about ?

yep....something to think about.

I THINK YOU WOULD PUSH OVER A WHEEL CHAIR BOUND PERSON IF YOU DIDN'T LIKE THEM!!
I could use some help here. I think "fantasia" is trying to do the same drip drip drip campaign that got me banned on the other forum. I'm going to try a different approach here and lay the cards on the table. I'm mildly Autistic and can't even attempt to win a back and forth social exchange. In real life the main tool I have to defend myself is filing lawsuits and criminal charges when necessary. Basically, I can't understand anything that can't be flow charted. I REALLY appreciate those who insist on berating and psychologically abusing me for refusing to classify my parents and grandparents as bad people. SO MUCH FOR LIBERAL "TOLERANCE". If I have to defend myself, I can't concentrate on social niceties. And come to think of it, of someone is mistreating me, they don't deserve social niceties! BTW: Feminist = Female Bully. In other words an abusive feminist that will try to "trap" you in to attacking a woman if you just don't sit there and swallow whole her abuse. A profound understanding of the bare minimum of legal treatment is key to defending oneself from a feminist. One iota more civility than is required by law is too much in the presence of an abusive feminist.
I'm stating my opinion, as you all seem to want the right to do. Don't read beyond what I am saying, Mr Neck, because you will be wrong in my motives. I say exactly what I mean and I mean exactly what I say. I don't plan plots against you.
And, just as I have said, this seems a good time to leave. For the day, anyway, LOL.
