Prime Minister Vladimir Putin characterized Georgia's actions as "complete genocide," according to his office's Web site. Putin also said Georgia had effectively lost the right to rule the breakaway province — an indication Moscow could be preparing to fulfill South Ossetians' wish to be absorbed into Russia.

Looks like Georgia is going to shrink as a country. Unless of course they fight on and repel the Russians. Bf

Anybody think the outside world will "step in" ? Gives22
I'm sure the U.N. will step in with the full force and might of a few resolutions. They might even threaten some sanctions on exporting bananas.
Putin put Russia in a dominant position globally. They dont really need the approval of anyone.

Yeah, they are pretending to be the USA now. Icon_eek
So where does Bush go from here? Georgia is an ally. They drank the Koolaid and helped in Iraq. What message does it send to other "allies" as Bush watches from the sidelines.

There is an argument to be made that Georgia made their bed and now they are being forced to lye in it. They killed 15 Russian soldiers and wounded another 150 when they made that surprise attack last week. I dont think they, or anyone figured Russia would react like this.
Russia says the Georgian President lied to them about his intentions, just days before his assault. I think Putin is seriously pissed off at him.

I wonder if Bush knew Georgia was going to sack Osseita ?

Putin wont back down. When Putin ravaged Chechnya in 1996, the world stood by and watched. Russia used illegal weapons, killed civilians, tortured captives.. they know from experience what the international response will be. Surface noise.

More than anything, I think Russia is tired of being ignored. They are flexing their muscles a little to remind the world that they are the second most powerful nation on earth. I think they will be heard after this.

Diplomicy is being tried first, just like always. Georgia attacked first, so I don't know if the U.S. would be obligated to help.

As you said, Georgia attacked first.

I agree 100 %
I still cant believe that guy attacked Osseitta with those Russian Soldiers in there. It reminds me of those people who get out of the Land Rover to get a close up of the lion cubs..

I think if the West went on the news and talked about the "ethnic cleansing" committed by Georgia and the unfortunate deaths of the Russian peace keepers. Things would calm down. Ordering Putin to cease and desist, in front of his people, is pretty insulting. They need to side with Russia and then ask them to back off.

I figure by Saturday, it will be irrelivent. Georgia will be squashed.

LOL.....I was figuring by Wednesday.

Wow.. Russia said Georgia has had enough. There was no hidden agenda. (I thought there was).

I guess this was just a good old fashion butt kicking afterall.

I think Russia made a point with other neighbours. Screw with the bull, get the horn.

Bush handled it well. That French guy seemed to have some success with the Kremlin although I think the Kremlin was going to do what they wanted either way.
That Georgian idiot is now beaking off like this is some victory for him. Saying "one day, we will beat Russia".

I would have waited until their armies had left my country ...
