First of all, let me say I'M BAAAAAAAAAAAAACK! After 3 years of not being on here....well, who the heck knows if ANY of you will remember me.... anyhow, it is amazing to see all the same old people hanging out in here. And a bunch of new ones too. Just skimming the list, I remember the regulars.... Altahabana, Beardo, Bogey, Caney, Chrismic, CubaKing (are you guys still giving him crap?), Lurker, Mariconson, Mdubuque...ugh.... Menteamente, Mountain Man, Pepin, Pblee, Quiennosabe, Rainbow, Sadist, Sonrisa, The Embarcadero (a true gentleman.... Did his wife make it over?).... Viajera, Viejo, Wotan, and last but certainly not least... and maybe the sweetest of all Yanet!... wow, the gangs all here!
So, fast forward 3 years. My hubbie & I are truly a very happy couple. We've been married for 3.5 years now! We have a gorgeous 14 month old baby girl and all is well. EXCEPT.... he still doesn't have his residency. So, his hearing is next month and I'm not getting a good vibe with the current immigration situation. Yeah, he's Cuban so he can't be deported immediately but... one day. And with the current situation in Cuba.... who knows what's going to happen.
Soooooo.... my question to you all is this: IYO....What is the best country to live in & why? I need some good opinions here. If you had to move your family where would you go? Where would you choose to raise your family if you had to abandon the US? Tell me why you think your particular choice is so great. I hope he isn't denied residency after everything we've been through....but....
Where would you go? Hmmm.....
BTW........Cuba is not an option. Wild horses couldn't drag him back!

from Cubamania have taken over here, with Chicito Pitito.
It used to be a site with some interesting banter, now it's such a bore.

Ahhhhh..... still the same old GS.

Wotan, you don't have an opinion on where to go if you had to start anew??
CubanLove, Canada is not such a bad place to be, but maybe too cold for your hubby.
Have you thought about Spain? Many Cubans move there, but if you have a job in the US, that may not work for you.
All the best to you. Unfortunately this forum has changed alot, and there aren't many of the old forum members that you mentioned, reading or writing here. You could try to get your questions answered on Cuba Amor, if that is still working, or even Thorntree.
Buenas suerte amiga.
We're thinking Vancouver, Canada or Sydney, Australia. I hear they are frequently on the "best places to live" list. Spain is way too expensive, at least when I was there..... I have never been on any of those other sites. I only used to post here. Anyhow, maybe I will try them. This place is kind of dead, no?
deported?
I've never heard about a Cuban being deported. Why doesn't he have his residency after such a long period?
Is it a bureaucratic fuck up or does he have a criminal issue?
Now is not a good time to go anywhere. The economy is fucked up the world over. You're better off here.

As much as it pains me....I have to agree with your questions and assessment.

Many Cubans get deported--on paper. Most of them are walking around living their lives but just waiting for the other shoe to drop. Some are incarcerated if their crime was serious enough. For a Cuban, a deportation order can't be enforced until something changes in Cuba or some change occurs in U.S. policy. He WILL receive an order of deportation if his residency case doesn't go our way.
After all these years, he doesn't have his residency b/c the govt is trying to deny him residency.... which is why we have a hearing. He doesn't have a criminal issue. He has never committed a crime in his life. His issue is only an immigration issue.... thank God its not considered a criminal case.
I guess you all don't remember me, so I'll try to explain in a nutshell... we screwed up. The last & only time I told the story on here someone called me a "troll." I guess some poeple have nothing better to do than post lies on here, but I'm not one of them. I was in a desperate situation, looking for some advice or reassurance, my husband was in INS custody and someone called me a liar so that's why I haven't been on in 3 years.
I can't be any more specific, for obvious reasons. Just was looking for opinions on what might be a good place to move to.... we may be better off here, but unfortunately, we might not have a choice.
I don't know a lot about immigration law but I don't think it is easy to just up and move to another country, especially if Mr Cubanlove is a persona non grata in any country. I don't want specifics because it won't help me, or probably anyone other than an attorney anyway, but to be very blunt, if the US doesn't want him, why would anyone else want him? Sorry, sorry, sorry. Don't mean that as it sounds, but has to be asked, no?
Hope the hearing goes well for you - that would be the easiest and the best thing to happen. Good luck!
Very strange your husband has been denied his Residency.
Usually, 99% of Cubans automatically receive it unless they have a criminal background or have comitted a crime here in the USA.
I would live in Italy. Just love the place of even Paris.

Actually, I had thought of that and that might be true if he had done something so bad or committed a serious crime. But in his case, I really don't think that will be an issue. I have to look into immigration requirements once we make a decision on possible places.
I know it sounds strange, if I could explain I would....but.........well, you know. One day it will all be over and I can explain in detail. I have confidence in our attorney and God so we're hoping for the best.
Cubanlove. I hope this attorney specializes in Immigration and not Personal Injury or Corporate Law.
I am an attorney and used an immigration attorney to bring my hubby's people.
I should have shot myself in the leg instead but whatever..
