Raul Castro orders tourist hotels to charge their highest rate to Cubans

So much for the so called "new changes."

Spanish newspaper La Razon reports, that Cuban dictator Raul Castro has ordered tourist hotels to charge Cuban citizens a much higher rate than the one they charge foreign tourists..

"This shows that the so called changes are a complete farce," said the article signed by Felipe Jimenez, La Razon's correspondent in Mexico City.

Worried that regular Cubans could have access to the reduced rates paid by most tourists, the Cuban government told hotel operators that any Cuban who tries to register must pay the maximum rate.

La Razon cites as an example that hotels in Varadero, which charge tourists an average of $60 per night, must charge Cuban citizens $200, making it impossible for regular Cubans, who earn an average of $18 per month, to afford even one night at any of those hotels.

The newspaper reports that originally, the Cuban government told hotel operators that they should charge Cubans the same rates as tourists, but changed its mind less than a week later.

I wonder how the fidelistas will spin this?

AK
I am sure that there must be a member of this board, in Cuba right now, that can ask his/her Cuban girlfriend/boyfriend, or maybe both, to enquire about the cost of staying at, lets say, a three star tourist hotel anywhere in Cuba.
Saves all that pissing about guessing the truth.

Kind regards,

Bob.
Big surprise.......none of the fidelistas responded...........Shocking, just shocking.

AK
Give it a ******* chance and why should a so called "fidelista" reply, will a normal run of the mill person not do?
Beardo, answers please.

Regards,

Bob.

Mercy,

If you were there, then I would want to see all the stars, not just five.

MERCY " have you ever stayed at a 3 star hotel in cuba ?? I have had no problem staying at one for the last twenty eight years in varadero and also some 4& 5 star ones threw in too ; really not that much difference; except for facilities its all in the mind" Ihave no problems getting along with the locals some of my best friends are cubans some have even visited and stayed at my house in canada great people ' cheers"
There are lots of hotels where the prices are clearly shown, like royalton in Bayamo (27cuc for one person)or Castillo in baracoa (40cuc for one person), to mention just two. of course a tour operator who comes with loads of tourists every week pays less, but I guess they are not going to change these announced prices.
